Theft is a criminal offence and the burden of proof is beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecution would need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that you stole the items, if they were given to you as you say, they would not be able to prove beyond reasonable doubt that you stole them.
Section 1(1) of the Theft Act 1968 states that: ‘A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another, with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it.’
