I have a capital gains tax question. and resident in the UK.

Customer Question

Hello, I have a capital gains tax question. I am German and resident in the UK. I own a property (house and garden) in Germany which I thinking to sell. I've looked at the Double Tax agreement between Germany and the UK and understand I will only pay capital gains tax in Germany (if there is any) and not the UK, is this correct?
JA: Where are you? It matters because laws vary by location.
Customer: I live in London.
JA: What steps have you taken so far?
Customer: No steps taken so far.

Yes, that is correct, you would pay capital gains tax in Germany only once.

Hereby agreement is based on an international treaty signed between Germany and UK, particularly 2010 Germany-UK Double Taxation Convention as amended by the 2014 Protocol and Bank Levy Double Taxation Agreement.

Thank you.
