I know that an artistic director of a musical charity was using funds from another charity to prop up his own charity. He also asked me to move as much work as I could into someone else’s expenses. His micromanaging intense work style and temper has caused one former employee to leave and be treated for stress. Because of a combination of all these things I felt I had to leave the company. Is there grounds for any recourse for this man?
Assistant: Was this discussed with a manager or HR? Or with a lawyer?
Customer: There was no hr department and I haven’t consulted a lawyer
Assistant: Does the workplace operate with employees, freelancers, consultants, contractors or with unionised employees?
Customer: i was a freelancer - I’m not sure if others had contracts
Assistant: Anything else you want the Lawyer to know before I connect you?
Customer: I don’t think so

Any advice?

As you were a freelancer and not an employee, your rights of recourse are limited but you may whisteblow the wrongdoings to the Charity Commission.

May I help further?

Would you advice against contacting press?

I would advise against it as of now until you have concrete evidence as you may be taken to court for defamation otherwise.

Ok I have concrete evidence of funds being used to prop up his own charity, but no longer have emails to show evidence of moving expenses. The former colleague won’t go on record as the director is a trigger for huge amounts of stress.

I will be in touch with charity commission, thank you.
