My Understanding was that the interest was freeze when the payment was defaulted. However when it was sold to Elderbridge debt collector they appears to charge interest. After the loan was then paid off they informed me that there is £32000 interest that i must pay.

Interest can be frozen on default unless the lender says otherwise.

It is not automatic. The terms would allow them to continue to charge interest.

So unless they say otherwise, it would be still payable as a matter of contract.

But you should take the steps I have outlined above.

Does that clarify?

Many thanks. I will pursue it with FOS as advised.

My pleasure.
