I have restored my Ipad to default settings but it won't now recognise my Apple ID although this has been confirmed on my PC. How can I find the original ID used to set up the Ipad

Is this iPad running iOS 7?

To clarify, is the iPad currently locked at start up, requiring an Apple ID and password or is it only an issue with signing into iCloud or the App Store, etc?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

The Ipad won't progress beyond the 'Activate I pad' page and refuses to recognise the Apple ID I input

Ok, thanks Charles.

You are running into a new feature of iOS 7 called Activation Lock. This is a high security feature and there is no end user workaround to bypass this lock.

However the iPad should have requested a password prior to being reset and the same password should work now. If you think you know the password and it isn't working, it may be another issue.

First, let’s attempt resolving this issue with your Apple device by trying a hard reset, then proceed from there if that does not resolve the problem:

Disconnect the device from it's cord, if plugged in.

Press and hold your Sleep/Wake button (on the top) and Home button (on the front) together for around 10 seconds.

When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

Now see if the password works. If not;

You should be able to reset your password using the site:

* IF YOU FORGOT THE APPLE ID ITSELF: If you go to the above mentioned site you will see an option on the right side of the page labeled "Find your Apple ID". If you click this, it will ask for some rather simple information that you should know as the owner of the account ( first name, last name, current email address plus the ability to enter additional email addresses if it has changed since you created the Apple ID).

If you can't pull up your Apple ID using the info above BUT you currently have purchased music in iTunes on your computer then you may be able to see the ID; To view this information, simply select any purchased song in iTunes and press Command-I or choose "Get Info" from the File menu. Then in the Summary tab of the window that appears (this should be the default tab), you should see the name / Apple ID listed.

Once you have the Apple ID and have reset the password, test out that it is working properly by signing into the Apple ID management site: (Click "Manage Your Apple ID")

Please note: I can give advice and information only, not successful access to your iPad or account. The responsibility of reactivating your account lays entirely between you and Apple due to security reasons.

If you still have concerns, please do not negatively rate my answer, simply reply back before rating. I'll be more than happy to work with you further. Hopefully, this info will answer your question. When you are satisfied, please give my answers a positive rating. You are judging my personal service only (not this website or your issue) and high ratings assure I remain in good standing.

Thanks and good luck,

John - The computer has my correct current ID and I have reset the password. The problem is that the Ipad will not accept these. Sadly I have only bought ibooks through itunes, not music. Would these provide

the proginal ID which is what the Ipad seems to want

Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.
You can try the same procedure to view the ID on other purchased content, as well.

Who originally reset the iPad and how did you do it, via the iPad or via iTunes?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

My son and I reset the Ipad via the Ipad this afternoon

Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.
Ok. Did it ask for a password at that time?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

When I restarted it after restoring to default it asked for language and location and then on the Activate page for both an ID and password. When I input these the message that came up was 'Incorrect Apple ID'

[email protected] cannot be used to unlock the Ipad.

Under normal circumstances, if you run into Activation Lock then it means Find My IPhone/iPad was enabled on the device previously. When resetting the iPad as you did, it should have asked for this to be disabled. Do you remember getting that prompt?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

Unfortunately no

Expert:  John T. F. replied 4 years ago.

In this case, you might want to contact Apple via their Express Lane customer service feature if you can't make use of the previous sites to find the correct ID:

Choose the correct category and issue as prompted by the service above and you will eventually reach a web form where Apple promises to respond within 24 hours. They may not help actively to remove Activation Lock but they should be able to assist you in finding which ID to use.
