Good evening,
Have been given a Mac desk top Nephews -switch it on and you get intro music and nothing more than a white screen and a regular continuous beeping sound.

Do I assume it is the mother board and that it is not worth mending

Can you describe what the Mac looks like?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

The mac is 3/4 yrears old and is a desk top model with all the works built into the screen which is about 2ft square

Only info Ican find on ot is that it is an imac 24/2 and model number 1225

OK it could be a defective motherboard or another component like Ram or hard drive... hard to tell from that but let's try something.

Resetting the SMC & PRAM for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
3. Wait fifteen seconds.
4. Attach the computer's power cord.
5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
6. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
7. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts.
8. Release the keys.

Let me know if there is any change.

Follow your instructions still no response from the computer. still same grey white screen and beeping pattern repeated after start up music

OK then you can try reseating the RAM or removing one at a time. You say it is only less than a year old? Instructions are here:

You might also try taking out the hard drive to test it. Let me know

Good morning,

Have removed the Ram memory individually and one is clearly dead.

The coomputers has fired up and has been running for several hours now with no problem.I will replace the dead RAM piece.

Only issue was machine caused a problem logging on -would not accept the password XXXXX first- might be the key board is touchy it has been worked hard. but I will sort that.

Thanks for your advice good to talk with you.

Take care.
