Hello & Welcome to JustAnswer.
This is probably because Outlook/Hotmail is not support for your browser.
May i know what is your OS X version?
Optional Remote Connect Service - Quick Resolution
Would you like me to remotely connect to your computer and fix the issue - The remote service will be an additional service for $24 but will allow me direct access to work on your issue and fix it (while you watch on your screen).
If you do not need the remote service, then simply provide me the requested information above. If you need remote service reply me with the words "i want remote".

Version 5.0.5 (6533.21.1)

Safari is limited to version 5 in Snow Leopard. To obtain version 6, you must upgrade to at least Lion. Hotmail, will not work because it is not compatible with your browser. I would suggest that you download Firefox, and use it as your browser (which should work fine).
to download Firefox, click the link below:
After it has been downloaded, run the downloaded setup.
Once setup finishes, you will get Firefox icon on your dashboard.
You can then use Firefox to access hotmail/outlook and all other websites.
You can also setup mail on mac mail, to access emails without opening hotmail/outlook if you do not want to use Firefox as your browser.
Let me know how it goes.
