I have downloaded IOS8. I cannot add my email account - it doesn't recognise my email address and / or password. Can you help?
Hi and Welcome. My Name is ***** ***** I look forward to assisting you today with your question.

Who is your email provider ? Google, Yahooe etc
Customer: replied 3 years ago. which I think is the problem!

Can you login to the webmail from here ? --->
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I can log into my mail account from my desktop and it is working perfectly. For some reason though i cannot set up the account on my iphone

Sorry for the delay. To make sure, are you stuck on the Activate iPhone screen or just having trouble adding the email account ?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I can't add my btinternet account. I work through the information requested (settings, email account etc) and enter my information and password ***** it will not verify the account. Is it to do with the outgoing mail server? Does that need to have different details?

It might be. You have to enter the server details manually. On your iPhone, goto Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you see your BT account there, then select it and delete it.

Then tap Add Account. Tap Other. Enter your email username and password. If asked for further settings, see below;

Incomging Server:

Port: 995 (If that didn't work, then try 993)

SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS. If that didn't work, then try with disabled.

Username: your email address including the @btinternet part.

Password: your btinternet password

For outgoing or SMTP, see below

Outgoing Mail Server:

Port: 465

SSL Encryption: Enabled (but not STARTTLS. If that didn't work, then try with disabled.

Authentication: PLAIN

Username: your email address including the @btinterne part

Password: your btinternet password

If that didn't work, then we can reset your password ***** see if it works or not. Goto this page :

(Remember, after resetting the password ***** will have to use the new password ***** your computer if you are logging in from it)

Add the account with new password ***** the same steps above. Please let me know if that didn't work, so we can continue troubleshooting.

Sorry - I really don't see why I need to change my password!! I have already done all the things that you have suggested. This guidance has not moved me forward one little bit!!

Katherine, that was the correct settings you need to enter. Sometimes, resetting the password ***** work. If nothing is working, you should try resetting the password.

If it still not working, then goto Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings. Then add your account.

Also, try these ports too.

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server -
Port - 110

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server -
Port - 25

Did that work ?

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Thank you - it worked, but I resent having to change my password!

Glad you got it worked. I know it doesn't make sense to reset the password, but I've seen it worked before in some cases.
