May I know the brand and exact model of your device?

Customer: replied 12 days ago.
As I cannot access the screen I can’t give you exact details. The eMac book is dated 2005, but I bought it after that.
Expert:  Abhishek Gupta 2 replied 12 days ago.

The screen on your Mac cannot seen. Please do following steps.

Hold down the Shift+Control+Option+Power buttons for a few seconds, all at once. Release them all at the same time and power the Mac back on to see if the black display is fixed.

The Apple screen appears, but then I just have a blank blue screen
Expert:  Abhishek Gupta 2 replied 12 days ago.

If you can’t see your Mac desktop on an external display

steps below.

  1. Close the lid on your Mac notebook computer to put it to sleep.

  2. Connect the power adapter to your Mac and a power outlet.

  3. Reconnect your Mac to an external display.

  4. Connect a USB keyboard, mouse, or trackpad to your Mac.

  5. If you’re using a wireless keyboard, mouse, or trackpad, make sure it’s turned on.

  6. Wait a few seconds, then press any key on the external keyboard, or use the mouse or trackpad, to wake your Mac.

If your wireless keyboard, mouse, or trackpad isn’t connected (paired) with your Mac, Bluetooth Setup Assistant opens so you can connect them.

I have an eMac, not a notebook

These steps should help you solve your problem with a blue screen on a Mac: Start by disconnecting anything that's plugged into your Mac - the blue screen could be caused by an issue with one of your peripherals. ... Shut down your Mac and wait 30 seconds. Try and boot up the Mac again.

Expert:  Abhishek Gupta 2 replied 12 days ago.

Try starting up while holding the Option key down. That should prompt the Startup Manager window where you can select the startup disk.

  • If that doesn't help, try Resetting the PRAM

  • If that doesn't help, a startup in Safe Mode

  • A Safe Mode boot takes longer than a normal boot so is patient.

  • If you can access Safe Mode, you may be able to retrieve files, but no guarantees.

  • To restart normally, click Restart from the Apple menu.

  • Tip... when posting for help, please tell us which OS X is installed. Some troubleshooting can depend on that.

  • If you aren't sure, when you are in Safe Mode, click About This Mac from the Apple menu.

  • The version is noted there.

  • If you couldn't boot in Safe Mode, try repairing the startup disk.

  • For v10.7 or later, restart the Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access OS X Recovery to repair the disk.

  • If the Mac has v10.6 installed, insert the install disc that came with the Mac.

Hope the suggestion provided is helpful. Please reply if you need further assistance.

Thank you.

Unfortunately the situation remains unchanged. I have a blue screen which doesn’t respond to anything. Apple support can’t help - I tried them first. Is there any way someone could retrieve the files from my eMac? I have lost over 10 years work. I need someone to come on a call out basis.
