I have code P2096 "Post cat fuel trim system too lean". Cleaned the sensor, which looked clean anyway, and checked air intake filter - also clean. Car is a 2006 2litre sport. Where do I look next?

After I replied to you earlier today I noted that you have taken two payments from my credit card, both of £ 13.00 on 24/03/14. A total of £26.00.


 


When I logged onto your site when I put in e-mail: [email protected] it was rejected so I put [email protected] which was accepted. I then aked one question and gave payment details once.


 


Please refund the £13.00 that you have taken in error.

It is a 2006 Mazda MX5 2.0i Sport.


 


Engine is LF type, number 772520; it has not been modified and the exhaust system is also standard. Routine servicing is up to date.


 


There is a little instability whilst idling but it drives normally.

Hi Bob ..

So many things can trip this this code as it is reporting the engine is running to lean .
Possible cause for this to happen .

Vacuum leak , check here first with you having a slight uneven idle
Leakage at the exhaust.
Rear O2 sensor failure .
IAC and ECT malfunction .
Front A/F sensor malfunction .
MAF sensor malfunction maybe dirty ,clean with MAF cleaner .clear code recheck.
Fuel pump pressure ,test pressure .
Ignition system ,timing out .
PCM malfunction .

Do what you can like with the vacuum leaks exhaust leaks etc
If the engine has over 100.000miles replace the front and rear sensor
but this mat not be the fix the sensor should be changed at this mileage.and where diagnostic tools are needed you wil have to use a good shop .
