Dr Wajid :

Hi

Dr Wajid :

Welcome to Just answer

Dr Wajid :

I would like to answer your question...

Dr Wajid :

I suppose it was probably Hepatitis B antigen that you are talking about

Customer:

yes

Dr Wajid :

That means that you are Hepatitis B positive

Customer:

want to know what it is all about

Dr Wajid :

Somehow you have contracted Hepatitis B

Customer:

so what do i do

Dr Wajid :

When did you last have your blood tested?

Customer:

november

Dr Wajid :

And everything was alright then?

Customer:

yes

Dr Wajid :

Ok

Customer:

it was november that i wanted to donate the blood

Dr Wajid :

Listen me out

Dr Wajid :

So were you positive for Hepatitis B in November?

Customer:

yes

Customer:

that was when i was told

Dr Wajid :

Well the good thing about Hepatitis B infection is that in 80-90% of the people infected it tends to clear on its own withing six months of exposure

Customer:

really, so what are you suggesting

Dr Wajid :

So considering that somehow you got the infection in November you should get tested again by early May

Dr Wajid :

THere are 80% chances that you may lose this infection by then

Dr Wajid :

But 20% chances that you may be still positive with Hepatitis B

Customer:

i did not say i got it in november , said was told in november

Dr Wajid :

Yes I know but that is when you knew it for yourself for the first time

Dr Wajid :

SO get tested again by early May

Customer:

so, if still positive, wat do i do?

Dr Wajid :

If still positive you will need further testing such as PCR HBV DNA

Dr Wajid :

Liver function tests

Dr Wajid :

Ultrasound abdomen

Dr Wajid :

And if your liver function tests are deranged your doctor will suggest treatment to prevent further liver damage and chronicity

Dr Wajid :

Thank you

Dr Wajid :

Do you have any further questions?

Customer:

what is HBV, PCR and why DNA

Dr Wajid :

It is Polymerase chain reaction for Hepatitis B DNA ... It confirms the presence of heptitis B before therapy can be initiated

Dr Wajid :

It also acts as a tool to look at the viral load within the body

Customer:

just goand do Hepatitis test?

Dr Wajid :

Sorry I didnt follow your question?

Customer:

HBV what does that mean?

Customer:

so by may 2013, should go for another Hepatitis test?

Dr Wajid :

Hepatitis B virus

Dr Wajid :

Yes thats correct

Customer:

then why the ultra sound abdomen

Dr Wajid :

The ultrasound is required if your screening test is positive in MAY

Dr Wajid :

Its a part of a panel of tests that are done routinely before starting therapy

Customer:

then supposing it come positive where should one seek treatment from? india because it is cheap or where?

Dr Wajid :

I would rather suggest you discuss this with your primary doctor

Dr Wajid :

He can guide you better in this regard

Customer:

Then what are the common symtoms of hepatitis B

Dr Wajid :

There might not be any symptoms with acute Hepatitis B

Dr Wajid :

But in Chronic Hepatitis B you can get jaundice, and features of liver failure

Customer:

so one might not know that you have it until you go for a check up

Dr Wajid :

Yes thats correct

Customer:

and guess it is treatable?

Dr Wajid :

There is treatment available for Hepatitis B and the response are different in different patients and also depending on the viral load

Dr Wajid :

Do you have any further questions?

Customer:

are you in the uk

Dr Wajid :

No I am not in UK

Customer:

where are you based

Dr Wajid :

I am based in asia

Customer:

which part of asia

Dr Wajid :

Pakistan actually

Customer:

ok, because i am actually base in nigeria now, want to know whether when certain that i have it, should go to india or the uk

Dr Wajid :

United Kingdom would be a better option

Customer:

you think so

Customer:

but would be lot expensive there

Dr Wajid :

For present you need to get your test repeated again

Dr Wajid :

You have a fair chance of clearing this virus from your body

Customer:

that will be in may

Dr Wajid :

Only 20% of the people with Hepatitis B go into chronicity

Customer:

what is the test called?

Dr Wajid :

And then too not necessarily would you require treatment all of the sudden

Dr Wajid :

It will be decided once all your tests have been done and your doctor considers you a candidate for treatment

Customer:

ok

Dr Wajid :

It si called screening test for Hepatitis B or HBsAG

Dr Wajid :

Do leave a positive feedback if you feel satisfied with my response

Dr Wajid :

Thank you

Dr Wajid :

Regards XXXXX XXXXX
