Hi, I have been having palpitations for about 2 weeks, some

Customer Question

Hi, I have been having palpitations for about 2 weeks, some days worse than others. Sometimes, 4 times per day and soemtimes 20 times. I had the same thing a number of years ago, about 3, and they did an ECG and i had a heart monitor for 24hours, but they found nothing.

I have started going back to the gym, doing lots of cardio, and it seems to have got better, not gone comepletely but much better. Although i have developed a cough where it feels my heart is beating in my throat. Again, not all of tyhe time but some of the time.

I do have a stressful job, i run a sales organisation and i do get bad anxiety. I have also stopped all caffeine.

What should i do and do i need to worry of dropping down dead from a stroke or heart attack.

Please advise.

Hello. I'm Dr. Phil, licensed and practicing internist. Excellent service is my goal.

Thanks for this excellent questin Louisa.

I'm sorry about this problem

I need to ask a couple questions in order to gather more information and provide you with the best answer possible

1)Have you had any tests? EKG? echo? holter?

2)Do you drink alcohol?

3)smoke cigarettes?

4)drink enough water?
Customer: replied 4 years ago.

1) No tests only the ones outlined above a few years ago.

2) I do drink Alcohol at weekends mainly

3) i used to smoke a few ciggarettes but do not anymore and have not done for months.

4) i drink at least 8 glasses of water per day of both still and sparkling water.

Thank you very much for this thorough reply

Most likely these are benign beats called PVCs.

They are very common in young healthy folks (I have them all the time)

They can be worsened by stress, anxiety, alcohol and caffeine.

I would cut down on alcohol. That will help.

You have had the proper tests and nothing was found.

I wouldn't worry about them.

They are normal

I hope this helps.

If you have more questions, just reply. :)

should i go to the doctors anyway? and how long do i give it before i should worry? as in how long it goes on for?

It wouldn't hurt to go but I don't think it is really necessary

It can go on for months or years at times.

Sometimes it goes away in days. Impossible to predict

The key thing is you already had it checked out and it was normal.
