My 24-year old daughter is plagued with Bacterial Vaginosis

Customer Question

My 24-year old daughter is plagued with Bacterial Vaginosis which 3 course of anti-biotics have not cured. She is at the end of her tether - feeling constantly uncomfortable (itching/soreness etc) and unable to lead a normal life. I suggested she see a Homeopath but are we just chucking money at something else which won't work. Please advise.

Hello, this is Dr K.. Answers are not medical advice and do not constitute a doctor/patient relationship. I look forward to helping you today.

Hi, this is a common problem. I am sorry she has not been cured. First you must be sure this is actually bacterial vaginosis. BV does not usually itch and cause soreness. If it is a resistant yeast infection, it may require ticonazole cream.

The latest research on resistant BV supports treating for both BV and yeast on a long term basis. This means metronidazole either orally or vaginally once a month. In addition fluconazole (a yeast pill) every week for 6 months.

Please try to get her in to a different gyn first for an accurate diagnosis. Good luck.
