I have had diarrhea now for three days. I have no appetite

Customer Question

I have had diarrhea now for three days. I have no appetite and have only eaten 2 pieces of dry toast toast in 48Hrs. I am taking Imodium as per the prescribed dose, but at the moment it is making on difference.

What else can I do please?

Hi there,
This is Dr. D.J., experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.
I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.

Based on your persistent diarrhea symptoms, there is likelihood of bacterial or parasitic infection.
Bacteria like E coli, salmonella, shigella, parasites like amoeba, giardia can cause this type of symptoms.
Also C difficile is another opportunistic bug that can cause constant diarrhea.
At this stage, you need to consider getting an antibiotic prescription from your GP.
metronidazole 500 mg 3 times daily for 7-10 days should be considered which will treat most of the infections well.
Since Imodium is not working, this should be taken seriously.

Best wishes,
