And viral infection may take sometime to clear up.

Antibiotics only help with bacterial infection.

Bacterial infection usually causes fever, shortness of breath and productive cough with phlegm.

Now, you can use pseudoephedrine and dextromethorphan together to suppress the cough.

Sometimes, codeine based cough syrup can be used to suppress the cough which is prescription based.
