My fingernails have been splitting badly at the tips for several months. Now they are all peeling away at the top and coming away from Skin?
Have you had thyroid studies?
If so what values?

Yes, but not sure how recent. My grandmother did have a very under active thyroid.
I also suffer v badly from Osteo arthritis which is v bad currently, except when in the heat in Spain.
It is likely that you have underactive thyroid
It is under diagnosed.
That is because labs tell doctors up to 4.5 is normal on TSH.
Actually over 2.5 can ;be considered hypothyroid if you have symptoms.

I would first check this with your doctor.
I would also check iron levels and ferritin as deficiency of iron can also do this.
