I am a healthy 77-year old, I cycle 100 miles a week and have a healthy diet, have never smoked. I have been suffering chest pains for a few weeks now, they come and go, they're in the centre of my chest. For example, they were there when I awoke this morning after a good night's sleep. I am assuming they are some kind of muscle pain
though I also have a sympton of a tightness in my throat. I am under no particular stress and have a happy home life with my partner.

Increase in pain?

- None experienced when breathing deeply or coughing

- No increase when making a movement

Only other condition is glaucoma, being treated successfully with

eye drops

Additional symptom is that I feel a tightness in my throat at times.

I should add that I don't always have this pain, it seems to come and go,

regardless of what I might be doing.

Thank you for the additional information.
Although your symptoms seem unlikely to be heart related but having said that I would still like that you should be investigated and you should have an ECG to begin with to make sure that is normal and then proceed to other tests, if required, to definitively rule out a heart problem.
Other causes include a muscular pain thats also leading to tightness in your throat.
Meanwhile you can try taking over-the-counter ibuprofen 400 mg three times daily and see if that helps.
Chest pain can sometimes also be due to acid reflux from the stomach as well for which over-the-counter medications like zantac may help.
So the main thing is that these symptoms do not sound serious but just to be dead sure I would still investigate to rule out anything serious.
