Hi I will be having surgery to have my gallbladder removed in a few days and ive never been in pain, is it standard just to remove the gallbladder? after gallstones have been found. I have also had a gastric bypass 2 years ago and was told its very common gallbladder removed after gastric bypass

my concern is the weight gain and after having gallbladder removed you can get pancreatic cancer and as i feel healthy with no pain wouldent it be wiser to have the gallstones removed rather than a organ in my body as i thought that they could break the gallstones without surgery

you are not at higher risk for pancreatic cancer

that is not true

you cannot remove just the stones

the whole organ has to go
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

how can the stones be removed without surgery, i now have a healthy bmi and am worried about the weight regain as i read the body has problems digesting fats and im already on a low fat diet due to my gastric bypass

they cannot be removed without surgery

not possible

your gall bladder needs out bonny

that is the only way
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

i was told that there were also adhesions, if my gallbladder was diseasesd would the consultants have known that or only on the day of the op and what about weight regain

you won't gain weight after gall bladder removal

that generally doesn't happen

The consultants can tell that by the scans
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

would my gallbladder likely to be diseased if there are adhesions

no necessarily but yes it could be
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

if it was diseased then i assume they would tell patients this and would the scan showed up with anything else im am afraid that on the day something else may be discovered or would they already know of this by the scans and blood tests

thank you

I don't understand what you mean Bonny

If you are having symptoms and the gall bladder has stones then it needs removed

everything else can be figured out at the time of surgery
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I have no symptoms of gallstones, because i had a gastric bypass i was routinely checked for gallstones with a scan which revealed gallstones and the consultant said to have the gallbladder removed, but i have no symptoms and have no pain so im thinking i feel fit and fine so is the operation really necessary and to delay the op

okay if you have no symptoms then it is not urgent

it can be delayed
