Hi Susan. Sorry to hear about your mother. Can I first ask if there is a specialist who is seeing to her leg problem specifically?

OK Susan. First off she needs to be seen by both an infectious disease specialist and a vascular surgeon. They need to fully evaluate the cause and extent of the infection and to determine whether an amputation may be necessary. Once they have made their appraisals, you can engage a malpractice attorney to review the case and to depose these doctors. If the hospital and its hygiene were seen to be at fault, you can then bring a lawsuit against the hospital and her doctor. But hopefully with specialist treatment of the infection amputation will not be necessary
