Would 300mg Gabapentin cause an increase in sugar levels in

Would 300mg Gabapentin cause an increase in sugar levels in a TYpe 1 diabetic?
How high were the sugar levels?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

Ranges from 12 to 21

Thank you for the additional information.

It is not reported that gabapentin can cause this effect on the blood sugar. There is no evidence that it can cause this change in the blood test, nor any evidence that gabapentin will interact with the insulin that is the standard treatment for Type 1 diabetes.

It is reported that gabapentin can cause certain side effects, such as anxiety, and anxiety can raise adrenalin levels and adrenalin levels associated with anxiety can affect blood sugar levels to a certain extent. But there is no evidence that anxiety, either as a side effect or a primary problem, can cause an elevation of blood sugar from 12 to 21.

It is true that the physical stress of acute illness also can lead to exacerbation of blood sugar. You do not mention why the gabapentin was prescribed, but it is possible that the illness is affecting the blood sugar level, rather than the gabapentin.
