What can cause a very painful vagina? Even just wiping after

Customer Question

What can cause a very painful vagina? Even just wiping after the toilet. I am 64 and have had a total hysterectomy some years ago. Could this be a bladder prolapse?

Hi. How long has this been going on and any changes on the outside? Any problem with urination or bowel movements?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

This has been going on for months. I can't have sex with my husband either as it's too painful. It feels like one particular area which is registering very sharp pain. Not too far inside. I have no discharge or smell or anything like that. Just dryness. I have had IBS for a few years, mostly constipation.

OK Anne. My first thought is that the problem is a dry vagina from menopausal changes but as far as a bladder prolapse that definitely could be the problem here. You need to have a pelvic exam and a check of your estrogen, progesterone, FSH, and LH levels. If it is a bladder prolapse you'll probably need surgery for that and if it's a menopause problem bioidentical estrogen and progesterone creams can help with that
