Hi Kathleen.
COPD refers to the chronic obstructive lung disease due to the damage to the air spaces in the lungs.
There are various medications nowadays to stop the progression of the disease.
We suggest the following approach:
1. For mild to moderate symptoms and acute exacerbations Albuterol inhaler should be used on as needed basis.
2. Tiotropium is a long ancting anti cholinergic and should be used daily.
3. a long acting steroid inhaler also should be added like Budesonide.
4. Another medications called Theophylline can be added as oral tablet to improve your breathing further if the inahalers are not helping fully.
5. Lastly we suggest oxygen therapy if your blood oxygen level is lower than 88%.
Oxygen therapy is shown to improve your survival and also quality of life.

Please avoid any smoking exposure.

Best wishes,

It was my pleasure to help you today.
