Hi there
I am looking for advice because I have been feeling unwell for 8 weeks with muscle aches, hot flushes and generally fatigued. I have some days that are better than others I had a full blood profile which was all good including thyroid and vitamin d. My only test that has come back high was ck levels which was 480 6 weeks ago. Just been re tested and it is 590 now I am worried. My doctor was not sure what to do next and am worried
Hi. We've talked before about this. Was there more you needed to know?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

yes today I had my tests back that showed I have a continued raised ck levels of 590

OK but first what other tests did you have?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

I just re tested ck levels as that was the only original one that was high. The other tests were full blood profile and thyroid and vitamin d

Full haematology (blood count)
• Infection and inflammation markers
• Full cholesterol screen
• Liver function screen
• Kidney function screen
• Muscle damage markers
• Calcium screen
• Potassium level
• Sodium level
• Iron profile
• Glucose level

When you said inflammatory markers--what exactly were those?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

not sure what to look for on the results but they were all good!

Specifically were they ANA--antinuclear antibody--rhematoid factor, ESR or sedimentation rate, and C reactive protein?

those were my original results. I believe I re tested with some extra inflammatory and the only one that returned high was creative kinase.

I am now worried as you can imagine

OK Richard. The tests I mentioned weren't done with those labs. What did your doctor have to say about this?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

he didn't know what to do. He did do the creative protein and that was fine not sure about the others.i know he added some inflammatory markers Why would my ck levels be raised and is that a major concern?

Not really a major concern but tell me more about your muscle pain
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

just generally aching muscles. For instance I played golf yesterday as I convinced myself it was just in my head and I just felt a little weak. It gets better certain times and then worse. I have had a bad back and chiropractic treatment can this effect the score? I was worried the ck was meaning something serious

Are your muscles actually tender or do they just seem to ache? What does the chiro do when you see him?
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

just ache not tender. Like you have mild flu! He manipulates my lower back and neck

OK. First off your CK numbers aren't all that high. Very high CK's can indicate an autoimmune myositis but just aching muscles alone are not the right symptom for that. Chiro manipulation can elevate the CK levels. I don't see anything in your labs that make me concerned you have any significant disease or disorder here and I think what you do have is entirely due to anxiety
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

yeah I think that may be the case but it doesn't help that my doctor keeps mentioning that it is serious and he again mentioned chronic fatigue. I had to tell him that I didn't think it was that as exercise helped.

What would you suggest as a next step with my ck levels

Customer: replied 3 years ago.

also could sleep apnea cause high ck?

Chronic fatigue syndrome just isn't in the mix here Richard as far as I'm concerned--you just don't fit the right symptomatology. As for your CK's--which I don't think are serious, ANA, RF, sed rate and C reactive protein would be the tests that would rule out--as I'm sure they would--an autoimmune myositis. And, no, sleep apnea could account for your symptoms but it wouldn't raise your CK levels
Customer: replied 3 years ago.

ok thanks doctor you have been a great help to me. Is it worth re testing ck levels? And is it possible to have a viral infection that is just lingering? I am also getting tested for anxiety but to be honest I feel quite calm about it all. Thanks again for your help over the last couple of weeks

My pleasure to be of help Richard. I personally wouldn't retest your CK. Something like mono can linger for over two months sometimes. Take care and let me know how it goes and don't forget to rate the service on this page
