What does a thickening in the lung mean? Picked up on x Ray and sent for ct scan. Person at ct scan also said she could see thickening. Awaiting report . Had bad cough cold 4 weeks ago which eventually cleared. No weight loss . 40 year old female social smoker . Cough gone occasional chest pain . Very worried.

It does not identify anything specific.
It could be scar, infection, tumor, autoimmune lung disease, or nothing.
A pulmonologist would need to look at it and examine you, oar a good GP trained in lung problems, who can go over this with the radiologist.
Thickening only means thickening, and can be from any number of problems....even just from smoking.
