Hi. Welcome to JustAnswer. I shall try my best to assist you while you are corresponding with me.
Chemotherapy is given as a palliation for metastatic colon cancer and not as a treatment or cure for it. It is known to increase survival.
The approximate 5 year survival for stage IV colon cancer or metastatic colon cancer with chemotherapy is 32 to 35 percent.
Which means that out of a 100 individuals who receive chemotherapy for metastatic colon cancer, 32 to 35 will be alive after 5 years.
Hope this helps.

Problem is he first was a stage 3 and had surgery to remove bowel tumor . All went well and then later developed liver n peritoneal mets .

irinitecan failed . He's just started oxyplatin with raltitrexed but his cea was 65 before chemo and now after 3 weeks of having first round it's 78! Plus ALP us now 175 . can this mean it's not working. ?

Unfortunately, chemotherapy is not a treatment for this and is used just to increase the life expectancy, the disease will take its toll and gradually the labs will worsen.
So, the chemo is not supposed to work by curing the disease, it is going to work to suppress it and slow down the rate at which it causes deterioration. But the labs (CEA) will continue to fluctuate.
Your oncologist should be discussing these things with you and I would suggest that if he has been reluctant, then you should bring this topic up.

We got told chemo shrinks them and sometimes some even disappear or atleast stabalise them ?

so there's really not much purpose for chemo

then ?

would TACE for the liver and TACP for peri help . In the peri there

are 4 7mm nodules

Thanks for the reply.
These things really can't be decided on a forum, these require multidisciplinary meetings and a lot of insight in to the disease of the patient and the final decision is tailored specifically to the individual needs of each patient. So, it would be unprofessional and unwise of me to comment whether TACE or chemotherapy is better in his case.
However, I can tell you that TACE is usually beneficial only for solitary liver mets, not more more multiple mets and not more extra hepatic spread.
Hope this helps.
