This answer was rated:

Walking long distances in unsuitable, stolen footwear during WW2 as a child left me with a turned-in big toe. It has only recently began to give me a slight problem because it is trying to move even further under the second toe.
I note lots of devices are available to help this condition. If I am very careful and do not rush it, would a programme using one of these “straightening” devices, worn at night, help?
Yes you can use these straightening devices or splints.
They are the first line of treatment and will help in correction.
It is best to see a doctor first and get his advise regarding the correct splint to use.
However, since your condition is mild, you can also try with over the counter splints at first. However if you notice any deterioration you should see a doctor and get a medically supervised splint.
Your condition is known as hallux valgus (just giving you the medical term).
Take care - wish you good health and a quick recovery.
