Is ADHD a type of autism

Customer Question

Hello from JustAnswer.

No, ADHD is not considered a type of autism. Certainly, the two conditions can have some similar symptoms, but the conditions are distinct. It is further complicated because it is also possible that some individuals can have both conditions. My daughter has a high functioning form of autism and also exhibited some features of ADHD when she was younger.

Diagnosis may be obvious in some cases, but may require a detailed assessment in others. The approach to management is also different for the two conditions.

If I can provide any further information, please let me know.
