This answer was rated:

My daughter has had a number of blood tests recently, all of which came back with an high white blood cell count. However the last one came back with a very low white blood cell count. She also has an enlarged liver and spleen. This as been going on for six months now and she still has not had a diagnosis yet. About four months ago they did find walking numonia which they gave har antibiotics for.
Have you any idea what she could be suffering from? Apart from the blood test results she feels fine.
She is 22 years old.

Hi. Do you have the CBC numbers handy?

What other blood tests has she had?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

It was between 8 to ten mill it is now 2 to 3 mill

OK--and has she had other tests like liver and kidney function, thyroid, etc?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Full blood count and liver function test

OK. Has she had a mononucleosis spot test or an EBV viral titer?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

She has had the first test which was negative but not the second

Sorry for all the questions--how much alcohol does she drink?

And what exactly has her doctor said about the liver and spleen enlargement?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

No alcohol. Doctor said spleen and liver enlargement probably an infection. Plus got my daughter on the phone count was 1.5

Sorry--what was 1.5?

Also has she had tests like iron levels, TIBC, ferritin, etc?

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

Iron levels checked she is anemic but not the other test

And what did you mean by the 1.5 count?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.

The white blood cell count. Also she is only 4ft 10inch tall just for your info

OK. There are a few possibilities here.

One would be mononucleosis despite the negative test and she need the EBV viral titer to check for that

Another would be hemochromatosis or iron overload and she need a workup for that.

I would also get an MRCP to look at her pancreatic and bile ducts for any obstruction there

Customer: replied 2 years ago.

One thing I forgot to mention she as an ifected wisdom tooth . Could this have any affect on her white cells.

No it wouldn't and it certainly wouldn't explain her enlarged liver and spleen
