I've been taking spironolatone for acne (100mg per day) for the last five weeks. It has substantially helped my acne but I have had pale clay coloured stools for the last two days. Should I stop taking it?
Hi, Thanks for your question. I'm Dr. Hasan and I'll try to help you. I am sorry to hear about your problem. I am going to address your primary concern but later you can ask anything you want. Clay coloured stool is a very uncommon side effect of spirololactone. It is recommended that you should stop taking it and should inform your doctor about this. Don't worry, it is not indicative of any permanent damage but you should inform your doctor and stop it. The effect will be reversed in few days. Your doctor should try something else for acne but not spirololactone. I wish you good luck and that you get well soon. My goal is to provide you with excellent service – if you feel you have received anything less, please reply back as I am happy to address follow-up questions. Kindly rate me when you are done. You can come back here to ask anything even after you have rated the answer. I will be glad to help you always. Regards
