My wife suffered an Osteoporotic Lumber L4 fracture 10 days

Customer Question

My wife suffered an Osteoporotic Lumber L4 fracture 10 days ago . She spent 5 days in Hospital last week and was discharged with Ibuprofen, Codeine, Omeprazole and Nefopam
tablets. However none of these seem to have any effect and she is now as bad as she was when admitted to Northampton General Hospital 7 days ago.

This is Dr. David

I am sorry your wife had a L4 compression fracture.

if she continues to have pain on codeine and Nefopam, she should go back to her GP and ask for stronger pain medications or go back to the A&E and be evaluated by an emergency doctor there.

she migth need to see a spine surgeon to be evaluated for kyphoplasty where they can inject some bone cement into the vertebral body to prevent further comrpession of the weakened L4 vertebral body.

she might benefit from a bone stimulator to help the bone heal in the area

she might need a thoracic brace to help take pressure off of the L4 spine

when is her follow up appointment with her GP doctor?

how many codeine pills is she taking a day?

make sure she takes a laxative and doesn't get constipated from her codeine pills.
