My son has a painful foot (left foot side of big toe near ball

This answer was rated:

My son has a painful foot (left foot side of big toe near ball of foot) has had an X-ray and it shows nothing. The nurse has told him it is not broken and there is nothing on the X-ray to show that anything else wrong. She said it's not gout as the pain is in the wrong place. So why is he in so much pain?
Hi. Was any trauma involved?
Any swelling, bruising, or redness in the area?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Slightly swollen and red and no trauma
How old is your son?

Did he have blood work that included a uric acid level?

He is 31

I disagree with the nurse who said this can't be gout since it sounds exactly like it is gout.

He needs a check of his uric acid level which I think must be elevated.

This is treated acutely with colchicine and an anti-inflammatory like indomethacin and the uric acid level is brought down with allopurinol.

He needs to have his GP get the blood work and start the medications
