the doctor says my father has oedema . fluid build up in his lungs as a result of heart failure . he put him on ramipril . my father's BP went down to 90/67 that day . I am not sure if the ramipril was the cause of it . he was clearly in distress and out of source. as a caution, I stoped the medication. what do you advice
Hi there,Yes Ramipril can drop blood pressure fast causing the distress. You should first discuss with his doctor before discontinuing the pill. The heart failure related excess fluid should be eliminated with a diuretic like Furosemide. The blood pressure may drop initially but should improve as heart function improves.Digoxin is another medication that can be added to improve his heart function without affecting his blood pressure.
