I have bipolar disorder I take sodium valproate, imipramine

Customer Question

I have bipolar disorder I take sodium valproate, imipramine & chlorpromazine. My mood is stable but I find I am flat everyday & very unmotivated.
I have depressive relapses regularly which last for about a week.
I am 50 & have suffered with bipolar since I was 15 but things have improved as I have not been hospitalized for 3 years but the illness still has an impact on my life. When I have a relapse I am unable to function with self harming thoughts.
I have 3 children, a sister & nephew who have all been diagnosed with ADHD & I believe I also suffer from this as I have taken 18mg of concerta a few times (unprescribed) & it always makes me feel better, less anxious & motivated, it also stops my relapse in its tracks which I found absolutely remarkable & an answer to all my problems. I have told my psychiatrist about this but 1- he was not happy that I took the concerta & 2 - just says my diagnosis is bipolar & never take the concerta again.
Due to the fact I have suffered with this illness for 35yrs & have now found concerta helps especially when I am severely depressed how can I get prescribed this drug.

Only a doctor who examines you, and agrees with you, can legally prescribe this.
I am not sure what your question is for us?

My question is how can I get concerta prescribed to me and is it harmful taking 1600mg of sodium volporate, 50mg imipramine & 25mg chlorpromazine at night then 18mg concerta in the morning?
Expert:  DrRussMD replied 2 years ago.
A doctor taking care of you, who has examined you, and agrees that you have ADHD would have to do the prescribing.
Imipramine can have serious and even fatal interactions with concerta
Chlorpromazine can also have significant and potentially harmful interactions with concerta.
OK, so that is an initial answer….
