I've experienced severe upper abdominal pain days.

This answer was rated:

Hi. I've experienced severe upper abdominal pain for 5 days. Symptoms only ease after eating. Symptoms return 2-3 hours after each meal. A walk in medical centre prescribed IBS medication, which hasn't worked. What do you think is wrong, and what should I do?
Hi there,
Welcome to Justanswer! I am Dr. Hoellering and pleased to help you.
This sounds like an inflammation of your duodenum or a duodenal ulcer. They hurt when the stomach ist empty, eating soothes the pain. You need acid blockers like pantoprazole or omeprazole, 40 mg to start with, later maybe only 20 mg a day. You wouldn't get them OTC, so it is necessary to see your doctor.
Your symptoms are not typical for IBS, small wonder that this medication doesn't work.
Please don't eat too much, too hot or too sour and avoid fried food.
After 4 to 6 weeks of medication everything should be ok again.
I wish you a soon recovery!
