Hello from JustAnswer.

New onset of blood in the urine associated with lower abdominal pain or aching is most likely due to either an infection or a kidney stone that is trying to pass. In men, the most common infection would be a prostate infection. Men certainly can also get bladder infections, but much less often than women.

A kidney stone would usually cause more severe pain, but some people can have less severe pain when passing a kidney stone.

There are, of course, more worrisome conditions that can cause blood in the urine, including tumours in prostate or urinary system, but there are far more men that have these symptoms from infections or kidney stones. We usually are not concerned about evaluating for these more worrisome conditions until the common problems are excluded or in men that are having chronic or recurrent symptoms.

It is recommended that anyone that has blood in the urine associated with abdominal pain or discomfort should be checked, as antibiotics would be needed if there is an infection.
