This is Dr. David
is the lump hard or soft
you could be feeling a reactive posterior cervical lymph node which can swell up to help fight off infections
or can swell up due to local inflammation
viral infections or mono infection can cause the lymph node to swell up as well.
how large is the lump?
is it on the skin?
if it is on the skin, it could be a sebaceous cyst or ingrown hair follicle.

red bruised looking sounds like an infected skin cyst
you should see your GP doctor about it
you might need a course of antibiotics for it to help calm down an infection.
you might need antibiotic ointments.

I am a cancer doctor
this doesn't sound like cancer
much more likely to be a skin cyst or infected hair follicle.
