I have severe depression but can't tolerate any SSRI medicine.

Customer Question

I have severe depression but can't tolerate any SSRI medicine. The only time I ever felt happy was after taking codeine for 3 days for teeth pain! But codeine wen I take it makes everything have a tinge of orange/yellow?!! Is that normal??

Hi there,This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.Codeine is known to cause visual disturbances including problem with color vision. The problem disappears on discontinuation of codeine. On a different note on your depression, you can try medications outside SSRI group.Bupropion is one such antidepressant medication which does not act like SSRIs. Best wishes,It was my pleasure to help you today. If I have answered all your questions, Please rate my response Excellent (click on the 5th star). Please bookmark my profile for asking further questions! This is the link to my profile:
