I am 76 years old and in a serious mental state, depression

Customer Question

I am 76 years old and in a serious mental state, depression and anxiety.
feel like I am going insane. Taking seroxat and am increasing my dose from 20 to 30 mg, on doctors recommendation. Feeling nauseous, very anxious, faint, panicky, is this likely to be because of the increase and will it improve, or should I not be on this medication any more. Have a long history of depression and have been on this drug for over 20 years. Am so afraid at present, don't know what to do. Please advise me.

Hi there,This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist.I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.Increased dose of seroxat is likely causing these symptoms.Since your depression is worsening, seroxat is not likely working.Alternative medication should be considered. It has been shown that lo vitamin D and low thyroid hormone can worsen depression symptoms.Vitamin D and serum TSH levels should be checked in blood tests as well. You can be switched to Sertraline from seroxat.Sertraline works well for both anxiety and depression. Please discuss with your doctor about it.Best wishes,It was my pleasure to help you today. If I have answered all your questions, Please rate my response Excellent (click on the 5th star). Please bookmark my profile for fast, reliable and authentic answers! This is the link to my profile:
