I have contracted chlamydia. The symptoms started on Thursday, 12th May. However I had not had sex for several weeks and so was surprised to contract it. Last date of having sex was 18th April. Prior to that I had a relationship with someone else and last had sex with her on 6th February. Would I have contracted the bacteria from the second relationship or could it have gone back as far as the first? I had chlamydia 9 months ago and it had cleared up after antibiotics although I did not retest to confirm. Is it possible that the current chlamydia is a recurrence from 9 months ago and not from my recent relationships?
Hi there,This is Dr Basu, experienced Internal Medicine Specialist. I am here to address your concerns and provide great service.Chlamydia may remain asymptomatic for several weeks usually upto 3 months.Given your pat infection you are at high risk for reinfections. If your sex partners were never treated for chlamydia, they can cause reinfections to you even without any symptoms experienced by them.18th April encounter is more likely cause of your recent infection. The treatment is highly effective --hence chronic persistent infection is very unlikely.Hence you are not likely carrying infection from 9 months ago.Best wishes,It was my pleasure to help you today. If I have answered all your questions, Please rate my response Excellent (click on the 5th star). Please bookmark my profile for fast, reliable and authentic answers! This is the link to my profile:
