I am 50 who has a diagnosis of bipolar I take sodium

Customer Question

I am 50 who has a diagnosis of bipolar I take sodium volporate & Imipramine. I have suffered from mental health problems since 15 I have been hospitalized numerous times but always when depressed.
I have 3 children 23, 18 & 10 & a sister aged 43 & nephew aged 10 all diagnosed & taking concerta for ADHD.
I have always suffered from regular episodes of intense depression where I could not function & would be in bed for a week having to take chlorpromazine to take the edge off the racing & suicidal thoughts.
My life has just been a daily unmotivated existence never functioning for more than 2 days a week, unable to concentrate, focus or complete tasks. On the days I did function I would be speeded up & unable to do things in moderation but I could never sustain any equilibrium.
One day a depression started & I knew yet again I would be depressed & immobilized for at least a week so I decided to take one of my children's 27mg of concerta, I couldn't believe it the symptoms completely disappeared & I became motivated. I discussed this with my psychiatrist & he was very angry & said I do not have ADHD & never to take concerta again. Time went on & I was still regularly unwell so I started taking Concerta everyday, I have been on it now for 6 months & my life has been transformed, I have no side affects I've had my bloods, blood pressure & heart rate checked & that is all good.
My family cannot believe the change in me I've had no relapses, I'm able to complete tasks, I've gone back to work full time, I've never been happier my quality of life is how I've always wished it to be.
I haven't told my psychiatrist about my self medicating but I did get him to test me for ADHD, I scored very high but he still will not acknowledge it saying my diagnosis is bipolar.
I get my concerta from my 3 children as they choose not to take it at weekends & holidays but I know there will come a time It will not always be available to me & I cannot & will not go back to the life I lived before.
Can you advice me what I should do.

HelloYesGet a different psychiatrist.Tell them what happened. What you are doing is eventually going to cause severe problems, not to mention, it is illegal.I would find a doctor who will listen, look at your test results, and perhaps help you in this respect. OK, so you might have more questions or want to give me more information: Please use reply to expert if you have further questions.
