This answer was rated:

My girlfriend had jaw surgery and now has a metal plate in her upper jaw. At the end of last year and has since had a root canal and has since developed a bad cough and suffers from continual retching. Her cough is now under control through taking an inhaler but the retching continues, several times a day. Noone seems to be able to give an explanation. Can someone help?

This is Dr. DAvid

the metal plate could be pressing on her vagus nerve which can cause nausea and vomiting.

medications like zofran (ondasatron) or compazine (promethazine) can help decrease nausea and vomiting

ginger can sometimes settle the stomach as well.

has she tried any of these medications?
