Customer Question

I went swimming in a pond yesterday evening. Almost immediately my skin started to itch badly. By the morning I appeared to have bites or stings across my body. These have now started to multiply and spread. Any idea what's causing this and what I should do?

This is Dr. David

you could have had small fish bites or minnow bites

or you could have been allergic to algae in the pond.

you need to see a doctor to get your skin examined.

you may need to go on benadryl and other antihistamines to see if that helps

you may need a course of steroids and/or antibiotics to help decrease the itchiness symptoms of your skin

you can see a doctor at the ER or urgent care center.

I would start there.

you don't want this skin reaction to get worse.
