My 90 year old mother had a colostomy 5/6 years ago.

My 90 year old mother had a colostomy 5/6 years ago. Overnight she has had feelings of wanting to open her bowels although she has a stoma. This happened ofter and is still occurring now, although no 'pain'. There is also some small amount of brown coloured mucus in her panties, which has not happened before. She feels weak.
I suspect could be an infection.

Why was the colostomy done? I mean what was her diagnosis?

No fever or other.
Colostomy done due to diverticulitis.
