This answer was rated:

scratch by cat, deep puncture with heavy bleeding, now it has been 24 hours and half of the thumb is red, purple and swelling. applied anticepitc product, wondering do I need some antibiotics pills or injection to prevent it from getting worse?

This is Dr. David

I'm sorry you got scratched by your cat.

sounds like a deep puncture wound.

red and purple can be from bleeding inside of the wound.

you should be icing the area and elevating it above your heart to decrease swelling and to decrease pain.

can you upload a clear jpg image here for me to review?

do you see the "add file" link?

i hope you have washed out the wound with soap and water.

applying neosporin antibiotic ointment can help as well.
