I am having a blood test as my period have not been regular

This answer was rated:

I am having a blood test as my period have not been regular for 3 months, I have currently had two blood tests but the 3rd one is called 17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-0HP) blood test,
could someone please explain what this means as its very hard to get an appointment with my doctor to discuss this....
Its a blood test for congenital adrenal hyperplasia. There's no good reason to do it for an irregular cycle of only 3 months.
