I've had a severe cold, sore throat, blocked sinuses, chesty

Customer Question

I've had a severe cold, sore throat, blocked sinuses, chesty cough for a week. saw nurse at local practise on Friday. she took my temperature, a little raised but nothing to worry about, listened to chest didn't sound too bad. I'd been taking paracetamol, honey and lemon drinks and inhaling steam with menthol. She recommended ibrupofen as well which may help relieve my banging headache. Sinuses and chest seem to be improving but yesterday devoloped a sharp pain in my left ear. clear liquid is oozing from ear, is this an ear infection? Is it treatable will it go away natually, should I seek medical treatment
Assistant: How long have you had the symptoms? Do you have a fever?
Customer: Symptoms of cold etc started last sunday with raging sore throat rapidly became a head cold and chesty cough. Earache started yesterday just as the other symptoms seemed to be improving. Dont have a fever.

Clear fluid is serous effusion and no infection likely, pain may be due to blocked eustachian tube opening in throat. Please use decongestant drops on that side of nostril 2-3 times and see. Please also try upside down posture reclining on sofa on tummy and keeping head near floor. Deep breathing will clear major airways of secretions.

Anesthetic containing ear drops (oil base) may be used in outer ear for pain, every 3-4 hours.
