My GP has referred me to a neurologist and the appointment

This answer was rated:

Hi, my GP has referred me to a neurologist and the appointment is confirmed today for March 2020. My headaches are severe, daily, and are only sometimes relieved with painkillers. I am also awaiting YAG laser iridotomy after a bleed behind the left eye, brought on by having Factor V Leiden. I also have balance problems, muscle twitching and many other symptoms. Should I continue to wait for 8 months to see somebody?
JA: Is the headache episodic or daily? And what about nausea?
Customer: every day - sometimes with nausea by no vomiting
JA: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: I have had 2 major DVT's in the left leg

This is Dr. David. I am reviewing your question now and will be with you momentarily.

severe headaches are not good

do you have sinus congestion? runny nose? stuffy nose, post nasal drip? these can cause headaches

how much water do you drink a day? lack of water can cause headaches.

do you grind your teeth?

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
No nasal problems except for the odd nose bleed. I drink plenty. Don't grind my teeth

how much water do you drink a day?

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
2-3 glasses plus drinking tea (6-8 mugs) and fruit juices
Customer: replied 6 days ago.
oh, I also drink milk. Some days I am more thirsty than others
Customer: replied 6 days ago.

it doesn't sound like you are drinking enough water.

it sounds like you drink a lot of tea which can have a lot of sugar and caffeine in it.

too much tea can cause caffeine headaches.

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
I drink ordinary tea, camomile, jasmin, but I do not have sugar at all

those are herbal teas without caffeine

you may be having migraine headaches.

do you have neck tension? this can cause tension headaches.

you need a brain CT or MRI scan if you have headaches and nausea.

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
I don't get flashing lights. Have no neck tension. When headaches are bad it gives me a sharp pain at the base of my skull and the same sharp pain on the temple(s). Would an 8 month wait to see the consultant be okay before having any scans? The headaches started in March this year and if they continue it will be ongoing for a full year before seeing a neurologist

I think you should have scans sooner if you are having nausea and headaches

Customer: replied 6 days ago.
Okay, thank you. Do you think both scans are appropriate? Should I go back to my GP to see if she can write to the neurologist asking to see me sooner?

you should get a CT scan to start with.

you should go back to your GP doctor to get into a neurologist sooner.
