Hi pearl, I’ve had some blood results back today from a home blood test and I don’t know what the results mean. Can you help?
Assistant: Is this a time sensitive issue? What type of specimen are they testing?
Customer: I think so. The results are highly abnormal. They’ve tested blood
Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the doctor should know?
Customer: Hypothyroid and previously drank alcohol but currently sober
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
Gamma GT is 88 IU/L and ALT is 50.2 IU/L. I have been sober for one month

Hello. I'm Dr Chip
Have you had an ultrasound of your liver?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
No. I’m unsure how to interpret the results - what do they mean?

Well both levels are elevated but not to the point of indicating liver damage or cirrhosis or hepatitis

It could indicate a fatty liver condition and an ultrasound would establish that

That's not a serious problem since it can be treated with proper diet and weight loss if indicated

Of course you should abstain from any alcohol

But I don't see this as something to be worried about

Please let me know if you need any more information

Okay - thank you. What sort of level would the GGT and ALT need to be at to indicate cirrhosis? And what symptoms should I look out for - I don’t think I’m experiencing anything out of the ordinary!

At least twice the high normal level

And really there are no symptoms for a fatty liver

With major liver problems there's jaundice, itching, abdominal swelling and fatigue
