Assistant: Hello. How can I help?
Customer: Is a singular swollen lymph node in the armpit a possible sign of HIV? Roughly 2 weeks after a possible exposure
Assistant: Any recent injuries? How long have you been dealing with the swelling?
Customer: No recent injuries, swollen for about 2/3 days
Assistant: Anything else in your medical history you think the Doctor should know?
Customer: No

22 and female
No sore throat, fever or cough at this time
I had protected sex just over 2 weeks ago but the condom broke, we replaced it as soon as we noticed. I did give unprotected oral
The last armpit shave was roughly 10 days ago
The area was very tender and painful yesterday, a little better today but still swollen and tender
No medications currently

Do you know your partner's HIV current status?

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
No, they are tested regularly as they are in the army, but I'm unaware of when their latest test was

I should also note my breast on the same side of the swollen lymph node is very tender and sore

Sorry for late reply and inconvenience.

Thanks for all this additional information.

I understand your concern.

Well as you describe, the chances of HIV transmission from that incident are very less likely.

A swollen lymph node itself can't determine HIV infection.

Do warm compresses on the affected area.

And afterward, apply OTC 1% hydrocortisone cream mixed with bacitracin ointment twice a day.
Use OTC Abzorb powder if you have excessive sweating.
And keep the area dry and clean.
Wear loose-fitting cotton clothes to prevent friction.
Take OTC Motrin and Claritin for a few days.

HIV testing can be considered for a precautionary measure.

Still, the chances are negligible.

I got a test done yesterday, is that to early to confirm hiv? When is the best time to test

HIV RNA PCR Works at least 7-10 days after exposure.
Accuracy: 99.89% accurate for HIV 1&2.
HIV 4th generation test at 4 weeks with accuracy 95% and at 12 weeks 99.9%.

Okay thank you, ***** ***** believe the chances, even with a broken condom are slim?

1 in 1000.

What could cause a swollen lymph node in the armpit out of nowhere?

It can be a swollen cyst also.

Customer: replied 6 months ago.
How would I differentiate the two?

Swollen lymph node - become firm, hard, or tender. Feel hard or rubbery, or don't move when you push on them.

A cyst feels soft somewhat hard, warm, red, tender, painful, swollen, movable sometimes.
