My Husband had an ECG and at the top of the report it says

This answer was rated:

Hi,My Husband had an ECG and at the top of the report it says 'left atrial abnormality' and 'incomplete right bundle branch block on ecg'. Is this cause for concern? Thanks.

Few observations here;

1) This is an automatic generated report. The sensitivity and specificity are low in these reports.

2) Both these issues are clinically not important, so again, there is no cause of concern.

3) Lastly, ECG or any investigation needs to be seen in the context of symptoms, signs, physical exam findings and other investigations (like echocardiography here). Together, they may sense and point to a diagnosis. Any investigation, in isolation, has a low clinical significance or value.

Hi, thank you. Can I show you the report? We feel really concerned.

Customer: replied 3 days ago.
Thank you

You are very welcome.

What were his symptoms for which ECG was done?

Customer: replied 3 days ago.
His blood pressure had raised slightly, despite being on Ramipril and his resting heart rate had increased
Customer: replied 3 days ago.
Average blood pressure over the course of a week is 134/84

His ECG is pretty normal and there is nothing concerning.

Customer: replied 3 days ago.
And he is on 5mg of ramipril

Nothing worrisome on ECG.

Customer: replied 3 days ago.
We were concerned that the text on the ecg shows a blockage in the heart?
Customer: replied 3 days ago.
He has a little shortness of breath at times.

He may get a Holter monitoring and echocardiography, just for caution and for the anxiety it has generated to you.

But there is nothing worrisome and concerning in ECG, as mentioned earlier.
